Peaceful Making Happenings

The Newsletter is BACK!  I am so sorry I missed a week - so forgive me for how long this is going to be!  The trip to Portland to attend Sacred Sheep really wiped me out!  It was sooo worth it :)! Tammy and I had a wonderful time!  Of course we came back to more goodies arriving in the store - so right back to stocking and inventory!  We had a wonderful Friendsgiving and we are planning for an excellent Thanksgiving weekend full of Black Friday sales, classes, and more open knitting and spinning times.  Hang on - here comes a lot of news!

Friendsgiving

What a wonderful night.  Many of you joined us for a lovely dinner and yes, more knitting.  Everyone brought delicious dishes and we ate until we were stuffed.  It was such a wonderful event and a great way to taste so many different dishes.  We hope you all can make our White Elephant event on December 11 from 4:30-8  as well!  When you sign up we will send out a link for a sign up form for what dish you’d like to bring.  It can be as simple as something premade or something you want to show off!  Remember to bring a small gift under $10 if you want to play in the White Elephant exchange! We will also be having a raffle for an Advent Calendar! Entries will begin Monday, so stop by to enter, and come to the White Elephant Party for the drawing! All Proceeds will go to charity!

Sacred Sheep

Tammy and I attended Sacred Sheep in Portland Oregon November 14-16.  We navigated the Government shutdown by moving our two-legged flight from Norfolk to a direct flight out of Dulles.  We managed to skirt all issues and had easy travels to and from Portland (sans being pushed over by a rude man at Dulles).  We had tons of fun at the VIP night (definitely recommend doing that) where there were drinks and food, less crowds, wonderful goodie bags full of fun stuff, and all the famous designers to fan girl over :) .  There was also a silent auction that benefited Sisters United (see more below) where we won a special colorway from Farmer’s Daughter Fiber and a beautiful painting (see in shop near the tables).  We shopped and shopped - and kept saying every day that we didn’t need to go back, but couldn’t resist and went back anyway. It was a smaller event and we really enjoyed it. On Sunday we took Andrea Mowery’s steeking class and both enjoyed it a lot!  We made it back home late Monday night - and I’m still exhausted a week later!

New Things in the Store Week

HedgeHog Fibres restock is here!  We brought in some different things - in those beautiful colors we love from HHF.  We have Sock, Twist Sock, DK, Oh So Fine Souffle, and lots of beautiful spinning fiber.  The colors are amazing!  The Oh So Fine Soufflé is wonderful - it is super fluffy and all merino - you just have to see it to believe it.
Kits! Kits! Kits!  Getting ready for Christmas we have put together some great kits for making and for giving.  We have the following kits available in many colors and yarn choices:

Weaving and Spinning

Our Thursday afternoon Open Spinning with Inger is taking off and is really amazing!  Lots of folks are dropping in to spin on our wheels, bringing their own wheels, and even drop spinning!  So much fun!  Great way to make progress on your spinning.  We are changing this a little bit - we are going to ask that you have some experience for open spin.  If you use our wheel, please continue to reserve one.  The fleece will be available for sale if you need it!
We will be starting beginner spin lessons.  We have had such a demand for this we want to take the time with the beginners before they go to Open Spin so we give them enough attention to get them spinning in a good way!  If you are a beginner and want to spin, we are here for you!  We will have beginning spinning - wheel and fleece and instruction included!  Please go to the website and sign up!  Inger will be teaching this class as demand requires!  You will be spinning in Open Spin in no time!
We will also be offering our first beginner floor loom weaving class December 6-7.  This class will be a two full day class - 9-5 taught by Inger.  You will be weaving  a scarf in a 4-harness twill pattern woven on a Schacht Wolf Pup.  We will provide  the loom, 2 skeins of sock yarn.  You will bring a notebook, pencil, scissors , measuring tape and your lunch.  Sign up on the website!
More Rigid Heddle Weaving!  Val is teaching a rigid heddle weaving class Saturday 11/29 1-4 . You will be making coasters.  Sign up on the website!

  • 2 Soda Pop Beanies - Sari Nordlund - yes I knit two of them!  What a great travel knit.  I knit one in the hand spun Inger did from the roving I bought from Flock this fall. The second is from an off dye I got from Hedge Hog Fiber (a DK and Mohair).  Both are super lovely.  One is a triple fold up brim, the second is a large single fold over.  This pattern is a simple top down and very well written.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soda-pop-beanie

My Favorite YouTube

Ok in the effort to make this newsletter less of an encyclopedia- I’ll comment on all my excessive YouTube favorites in one paragraph.  So many excellent winter, colorwork, present ideas in this last two weeks!  I even added a sewing video because I want to make that Pinafore! Hope you all enjoy this blast of making joy!

Wrap up

Thank you for hanging in there on this excessively late and long newsletter.  It was and will be a jammed pack weeks of activities through the holidays.  Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions going forward!  Always like to hear from all of you!  Remember we will be open Christmas Eve from 11 - 4 for all you last minute shoppers.  We will then close the brick and mortar store from December 25 - December 30 so everyone who works at Peaceful Making can have a great holiday season and enjoy their families.  If you need anything during that time the Website at www.peacefulmaking.com will be open.  If it is a yarn emergency and you need something while we are closed, please order online and select local pick up.  We will email you with how we can get your item to you.  Thanks for understanding!
Keep up to date on www.peacefulmaking.com , Instagram, and Facebook!  New classes, schedules, products, and other information.  Reach out by text or phone or messenger!  Peaceful Making all!  Look forward to seeing you all this week!
