Happy New Year and welcome back to the Peaceful Making Newsletter.  Thank you all for a wonderful few weeks off.  We had a wonderful holiday and family vacation.  No snow, no skiing, but it was nice to get away and have some focused family time.

Lots of new happenings at the store!  We opened to a new store arrangement, new products, new classes and make-alongs!  It is going to be a fun and exciting year!
New Years Resolutions
I’ve never really been too good at New Year’s Resolutions - but I thought I’d use this section to dream about new things and things I’d like to improve this year.
  • Finish my weaving - I have two open projects and I’d like to finish both of them - one on my rigid heddle and on the Wolf Pup Floor Loom.
  • Complete the Andrea Mowery Jaunty Spin and Knit along.  Spinning my silver/grey merino and knitting a Jaunty.  I have until June - let’s see.
  • Complete our Dagmar Zipper Knit-along.  We will be forming a knit-along group for this lovely pattern sweater with a zipper.  Stay tuned for a sign up and make this a resolution for you too!
  • Making a few knits that make my heart sing….just for me….
  • Felting a scarf
  • Create an Indigo Dye vat and produce some beautiful dark blue yarn.
  • Dye a local yarn for the store.
  • Continue to bring new and interesting yarns, crafts, and fun trinkets to the store.
  • Create more community making time for you all!
That’s a big list!  I’ll say thank you in advance to all of you who help me work through these and try to make them happen!
Community
This write up is from my last newsletter.  Might have missed it due to the holidays.  I am looking for folks to come together and show off your beautiful makes from our store!  Read below and become a member!  We will have the posting class up on Wednesday!
We are very excited to announce the Peaceful Maker’s Society.  This program is intended to honor our makers in our community.  We would like to display our makers' finished projects that have been made using Peaceful Making products.  Whether it is made using our fibers or equipment we would like to honor you by displaying your creations both in store, in the newsletter, and online in our Peaceful Makers community page.   We will have a Peaceful Maker’s Society page on Facebook (cross posted on Instagram) where you can post your makes and we will choose the makes we will display in store.  We ask that you add the pattern (with a #), designer (with an @) and the yarn maker with (with an @) and the name of the yarn (with a #) and the location of peaceful making and link to our website.  We will have a free Community posting class (and video on the website) for you to watch to learn how to post.  For those of you who are chosen to display in store and featured in the newsletter,  we will give you a $50 gift certificate for displaying your make for 30 days. We are excited to get started with this program!
New Things in the Store This Week
We started off the year with a new Tapestry Weaving Class with Inger and the new Open Sew with Carol.  We even added a new knitting time on Sunday afternoon for those who want to get away from the sports!  We will start our Knitting Academy classes this week as well.  Check out the classes section of the website and sign up!  We will be adding a virtual knit along club soon.

The newly placed front desk has a new collection of new branded products.  Peaceful Making pattern placeholders and Peaceful Making Italian/Tubular Bindoff card made by Katrinkles.  Great for keeping track of where you are in your pattern, or color work charts - and a written reminder of that pesty bindoff.  We have new Lumos electronic ring counters and Peaceful Making Stitch Markers in both singles and a lovely set we created in store.  Stop by the front and shop the new functional trinkets!

As we left on vacation we received a few new yarns - so a little reminder - we now carry Spincycle!  We have a good selection now, but will be receiving a larger shipment in the next month.  We also received two different feltable yarns - Sandnes Garn - Friditsgarn, and Quince & Co - Puffin.  We love the Sailor slippers, but we also love the Sandnes Garn Slipper pattern - see below in the YouTube Video section for a no sew double slipper technique!
Weaving and Spinning
This week (and next) was all about Tapestry Weaving and e-spinning.  We have new Tapestry Weaving looms in stock and also available for order and drop ship.  We took off with the Dreaming Robot e-spinning wheels.  We are carrying the EEW 6.1 and EEW 2.1 wheels.  An affordable and simple way to begin spinning.
We continue on Thursday afternoons with Open Spin.  Rent a wheel or bring your own wheel.  Good opportunity to try out different wheels before you buy.  Great time to spin with friends!
Classes and New Events -
We have finally put the schedule for the Making academy (yes we changed the name to make one academy instead of so many!).  The classes and other events are on this calendar https://peacefulmaking.com/pages/calendar?_pos=1&_psq=calendar&_ss=e&_v=1.0.  The knitting classes will be once a week alternating between Thursday and Sunday.  Thursday at 6:30 will be a Skill’s Tune Up class.  You will need to already know how to knit for this class.  It will be an hour to learn or sharpen a skill.  See the calendar for the class list for the next 6 or so months.  We will also have a beginners class on Sundays from 1- 3.  We will have a series of classes that will move the student to becoming a knitter. Our first class will be Demystifying Ravelry.  Check out the calendar! Classes can be purchased individually by the hour,  by the month or a yearly membership that includes all events, classes, and equipment used in the store for a year.  Here is the price schedule:
Individual classes by the hour:  $10 per hour.
Monthly classes: $24 per month ( one month of unlimited classes)
Yearly membership: $247 per year (one year of unlimited classes)

  • Sailor Slippers- Completed and adorable! They are on display in the store for now, but will have to come home for wearing soon. I did wash them three times to get the desired felting, so don't give up hope if they don't come out perfect after the first wash. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sailor-slippers
