Thank you for your patience over the past few weeks through the State Swim Meet travel and the dreaded illness that ran through our family! Three weeks without a newsletter…Thank you for letting all of us sickies heal and rest! Though I have been out, the store has been moving and shaking! Thanks to everyone who helped the store keep moving and growing! It has been a jam packed three weeks of events, only having to postpone one event. We are welcoming two new team members to the Peaceful Making staff! Please welcome Ella Corbett as our new Marketing Specialist. Ella will be starting on Monday March 9! Stop by and say hello. We will also be welcoming our very own Katie Gilreath on April 2 as our Assistant Manager helping us with all the things including back office and retreats. I know you will let these wonderful ladies know how much we welcome them and how much we appreciate them being with us!
It’s amazing how much happened these past three weeks! Read more to find out about the Making Academy summer class schedule, Knitting Office Hours, new things in the store, Knit for Food, job openings at the store, new knits, new weaving and spinning options, and more!
Nash Yarn Fest is around the corner and we are so excited to bring a group with us! The event is April 17-18, but we will be travelling to Nashville, TN the 16th and returning the 19th. We would like to check your interest in coming with us. There are two options for attending with us, We can either just reserve the tickets for the fest for you or you can attend with us in an airbnb with tickets to the events at Nash and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry! Please visit our page on the website linked below and fill out the contact form for more information or to sign up for the trip!
We have been talking about Knit for food for about a month now and hope you all will either support us with a donation, or join our team and knit along with us! Tap the link below to go directly to our team page to either join or donate. We will be in the store for the entire Knit-a-long on 4/11/26 from 10am - 10pm. We will also be on our store zoom and will be joining the main Knit-a-long zoom from the store. You do not have to knit the entire time, so no pressure! You also do not need to just knit - being a making store, feel free to work on your project of choice. If you want to spin or weave, or any other make, that would be great! Come join us as you can, and support Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, Team no kid Hungry and Meals on Wheels!
Our goal is to raise $5000 as a team! I have done Knit for Food for the past 2 years and it is really fun. We will be remotely connected to the main knit-a-long and will be able to participate with all the special guests including Patty Lyons! You can work on one of your projects or we can choose a knit-a-long for the event - or we can do both. We will choose our knit-a-long project this week, so send me your ideas at questions@peacefulmaking.com! We will announce the project next Thursday at Making Time.
Katie’s Pressed Flower’s Sweater and Suella’s Sockmatician’s Toe up socks will be on display for a few more days. Come in and see these lovely works by our Peaceful Making Society Makers in Residence. Thank you both for sharing your lovely work with us!
New works on display by myself are the Reagan Cardigan by Isabell Kraemer in Coastal Cashmere in Misty Morning, the Alpine Bloom hat by Kaitlin Hunter in Spin Cycle Dyed in the Wool in Hot Minute and Ito Rakuda and Sensai in white, and the Stripey Raglan by Loupy Studio in a combination of scrappy Big Birdie by Lamb and Kid, Noro, and other scraps in many different colors (come see this fun knit!).
We are pleased to welcome Linda Sears to the Peaceful Making Society as she displays her lovely On the Beach by Mother of Pearl Patterns. Linda used West Yorkshire Spinners Morris. Linda knit this beautiful blanket in record time ahead of her new grandchild’s arrival! The blanket will be in store for a very short time, as the baby is going to be here soon. Come in and see this amazing knit by Linda!
If you are interested in becoming a member of our Peaceful Making Society, let us know at questions@peacefulmaking.com. Remember, projects can be any kind of making! As a member of the society you will display your project for 30 days and receive the same amount of yarn or supplies as in your project at 50% off in exchange for your exhibition! Hope to see many of you join us and display your lovely projects!
Peaceful Making Communication Corner - replaced with graphic
Here are links to ways to Communicate with the Peaceful Making Community:
New Things in the Store Week -
Coastal Cashmere - (see the Reagan Cardigan by the front door) This came in mini braids and singles. We also have a lovely sample of a cowl next to the yarn. It is so soft and the stitch definition is great for a cashmere! It is sport weight and a joy to knit! Absolutely lovely no pill, machine washable cashmere!
Lang - Jawoll sock yarn, Lang Eternity. I went overboard on the Jawoll - my all time favorite sock yarn. We have a rainbow of colors - and each skein has a bonus of a wool/nylon spool inside! You can use it to strengthen the sock you are making - or save it for a different pair! We also received the cotton Lang Eternity - similar to the Lang Infinity, but made from cotton. Beautiful color changing rainbow cotton.
West Yorkshire Spinners Sock Yarn - this is a color update! We brought in all the lovely spring/summer colors. Lovely, strong sock yarn! Enjoy!
Sandnes Garn - We have the well sought after Ballerina Chunky Mohair in lovely spring colors, Paljett, the hard to find sequined yarn in the impossible to get Unicorn Twinkle, as well as Gold Digger, Silver Spoon, and Espresso. I’ve got my eye on the Espresso for a lovely evening tshirt!
We are loving our personalized Peaceful Making merch from Katrinkles! Rulers, Darning Looms, Tiny Sock Stitch Markers. Stay tuned for a class on using the Darning Looms to not only mend, but to decorate your clothes and knits!
We received a large shipment of a variety of different bags - beautiful colorful striped totes - these totes sold out online and are very hard to come by! Red velvet small bags, carpet bags, nylon pouches, terry cloth bags and colorful totes. Check them out on the website or come in and see the broad selection in person!
Chiao Goo needles update to stock up on our inventory as well as the addition of the new Chiao Goo Quads! We also have 4” Chiao Goo Forte needles. Great for small circumference work!
Lantern Moon - cable needles, finishing needles, small needle travel organizer and cute tape measures (sheep in different colors and sock monkeys). Is anyone interested in Lantern Moon needles? If you are - let me know and I will bring them in.
We also received some soles for our felted slippers and clogs - we have two options - sew on balls of the foot and heel pads or entire soles. If you are interested in making felted slippers, feel free to join our slipper group on Mondays starting at 11am. We have our own pattern that creates a seamless lovely slipper that is knit in the round!
Snap project bags from Twill and Horn - for those of you who were looking for a bag to manage your color work yarns!
We also have some new tape measures - both whip stitched leather and cute printed sheep
Last but absolutely not least, we have fiber. TONS of fiber. Merino and Corriedale fiber for spinning and felting!
The Hibernal Sock Knit-a-long, another Summer Lee pattern is wrapping up this week. There are several pairs in store to check out and a lot of people did this sock - keep your eyes peeled on feet during the making times, I know you will see many pairs.
We have started a new open weaving time on Saturday afternoons. We are using this time to let anyone come in and try out our looms or bring your own looms in for some community weaving. We will also have some small bookmark looms for sale for those of you who want an inexpensive way to try out weaving and take a small pocket loom home with you. We will also have floor loom classes on the schedule in April. Look out on the calendar on the website for these classes!
We are in the development stage of the Weaving, Spinning, and Fiber Prep Academy, so keep an eye out on the website and calendar - more coming soon!
