Peaceful Making Happenings

It is so interesting to me how every week the store changes.  You’d think we were a simple thing - that making is simple.  This week I see the growth in our making.  We opened with knitting as our dominant making, and while we still have a lot of knitters, we have seen our weaving and spinning grow.  We are so proud of our learning and our making.  I hope you all stop in and see the loft grow, join in with the classes and enjoy the new making classes, equipment and supplies!  Today we see even more changes as we welcome Stephen Mark into the store to help us assemble our flatbed knitting machines and train us on these and our sock machines.  This is a very exciting time!  We will be sharing this training with all of you very soon!

Community

We had so much fun at the Wanchese Christmas Parade and Market.  Helen, Jenna, Haley and Allison rode in the Peaceful Making truck in the parade - throwing candy and wishing everyone on the route a Merry Christmas!  What a fun time! We also had a booth at the Wanchese Christmas Market and had a great day selling making and raffle tickets for the Woobles Advent Calendar.  Thank you Kristine and Carol for working the booth.  We drew a winner for the first Advent Calendar and Carol was our first winner!  Congratulations and thank you to all who bought raffle tickets!  We will be donating the $200 we received from the raffle ticket sales to The Beach Food Pantry!

Room at the Inn

We have a box in the store where you can donate clothes and blankets for Room at the Inn.  We have already sent in two large bags of blankets - feel free to bring in more items if you’d like to participate in the donation.

Beach Food Pantry

We also have a tub filling up with food donations for the Beach Food Pantry.  We will be taking our donations in on Every Friday until Christmas Eve!

Hats for Spring Arbor

We will be making hats for Spring Arbor Senior Living at the store.  We will start Thanksgiving weekend - if you want to come in and help just let us know - info@peacefulmaking.com - we will show you how to use the knitting machines - we hope to make many hats for the residents!  We will work around your schedule!

New Things in the Store Week

Stephen will be in the store Monday and Tuesday to help us assemble and learn more about our knitting machines - both flatbed and sock.  We are very excited about this new making opportunity!

We received a large restock of Woolfolk this week.  It continues to be a very popular choice - with a restock after less than a month in the store.  I just finished the Knogle - a beautiful beret in the fun Flete.  It is a little tricky with the lumpy texture, but it produces a lovely fabric!  It is a simple and quick knit (I’m starting a second one) but warning - when it says continue in pat - it really means knit the knits and pearl the pearls :).  My next Woolfolk knit will be a vest - super excited!
Cute 3D printed yarn minders came in this week.  Super cute flowers, even a double spinner.  Very colorful and useful!

The Black Friday Sale has been wildly successful and will continue through Cyber Monday.  We will definitely be doing a Knitting for Olive restock after this sale!
Classes, classes, classes - we’ve had a flurry of classes offered and a few takers.  We are going to take a look at how we offer these going forward as we have not had too many takers.  We will be offering great classes, we have started the sign ups earlier, but I think we are not getting the word out and will be working on that.  So - keep an eye out for the classes!  We will also be offering them in conjunction with our upcoming retreats.  So if you are coming with friends and would like a personalized retreat, let us know and we will run classes then!  It’s tricky getting times when everyone can attend!
Talk about classes December 12/6-12/7 there is a 2 day floor loom weaving class.  This is next weekend and there are 2 slots available.  Please sign up soon - I do believe they will fill up this weekend. If you would like to attend and are out of the area, we have housing options available- reach out!

Weaving and Spinning

Our Thursday afternoon Open Spinning with Inger is taking off and is really amazing!  Lots of folks are dropping in to spin on our wheels, bringing their own wheels, and drop spinning!  So much fun!  Great way to make progress on your spinning.  We are changing this a little bit - we are going to ask that you have some experience for open spin.  If you use our wheel, please continue to reserve one.  The fleece will be available for sale if you need it!
We will be starting beginner spin lessons.  We have had such a demand for this we want to take the time with the beginners before they go to Open Spin so we give them enough attention to get them spinning in a good way!  If you are a beginner and want to spin, we are here for you!  We will have beginning spinning - wheel and fleece and instruction included!  Please go to the website and sign up!  Inger will be teaching this class as demand requires!  You will be spinning in Open Spin in no time!
We will also be offering our first beginner floor loom weaving class December 6-7.  This class will be a two full day class - 9-5 taught by Inger.  You will be weaving  a scarf in a  4-harness twill pattern woven on a Schacht Wolf Pup.  We will provide  the loom, 2 skeins of sock yarn.  You will bring a notebook, pencil, scissors , measuring tape and your lunch.  Sign up on the website! https://peacefulmaking.com/products/two-day-weaving-on-a-floor-loom

FO’s

  • Northern Augustins No 4 - Anne Sophia Velling - Love this pattern.  Just finished on Wednesday and I love it!  It is heavy, but I love the double knit neck and sleeve and bottom ribs.  Yes, I said I wouldn't do that, but it was irresistible. If you do it - I highly recommend the Jenny’s technique for the neck and Andrea Mowry’s video for the sleeves and bottom.  If you need help - let me know - I just loved doing these!  I am using Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino and Mohair held together.  It’s a heavy sweater - but it is oversized and I love it!  I wore it this weekend and it was not too hot and I absolutely love it! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/northern-augustins-no-4

  • Knogle - Woolfolk - Super easy and cute!  Love this one for gift knitting because it is quick. Remember that knit in pat means knit the knits and pearl the pearls.  I did the medium and it is just right.  Ask Kristine - she was the first to wear it at the Wanchese Christmas Market! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/knogle

WIP’s

  • 6 Day Holiday Supernova Tree Skirt - Betty McKnit - Jenna is still working on this pattern and it is turning out beautiful! Can't wait for it to be completed so we can display it on our Christmas Tree!

  • Stay Extra Toastie -  Veronica Lindbergh - I started this at the Market and I love this simple pattern!  I still keep track of where I am, but I can talk and watch TV without an issue! I am making the larger one, but I think the neck scarf would be a great Christmas gift knit !  Ask Tammy - she just finished hers! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stay-extra-toasty-scarf

  • Harvest Flower - Jessie Maed Designs - I can’t resist - I’m going to cast this on today!  This sweater was almost as popular as their sheep sweater at Sacred Sheep.  Yarn is Farmer’s Daughter Fiber Pishkun - and we have many colors to choose from in the store!  Lovely quick knit! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/harvest-flower-sweater
  • Petal Drop Socks - Florence Miller - This is a project that started with a Rhinebeck buy!  Linda, Val and I bought some beautiful pink for this cast on!  I hope to get mine started this week. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/petal-drop-socks
  • Friday Tee - Petite Knit - Sleeves are still lingering - I’ll get back to this soon!  I am in love with this simple pattern.  It can be short or long sleeves, I’m doing longish sleeves.  I am on the sleeves now.  I am doing this in Farmer’s Daughter Fiber and in a (of course) bright pink and lime yellow in Juicy DK. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/friday-tee-
  • Vest - Woolfolk - I cannot decide which vest I’d like to do. Will need help deciding - but I want a great vest in Woolfolk Far.  Let me know if one of these should be the one or if you have other ideas :)! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gaering or https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/salix-8
  • Rosie Sweater - LeKnit I am determined to get this done!  It might be during Christmas Break - but I am determined! I have chosen my yarn - I’m going to use Camillia Fibers Sylvan DK in African Violet with the roses in Thistle. Excited to cast this on! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rosie-sweater-4
  • Dagmar Zipper - Petite Knit - Linda and I are going to do this sweater in January using Harrisville Designs. We are trying this one out to see if we want to carry it in the store.  Let me know if you want to join us on this journey!  We picked this up at Rhinebeck. Let me know your thoughts.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dagmar-zipper-sweater

New Patterns and Christmas Knitting

Stockinette Mitts - These look cute, quick and fun! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stockinette-mitts-2
Whimsical Christmas Socks -Not necessarily quick - but super cute for those color work masters! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-whimsical-christmas-sock-set
‘Twas the Night before Christmas Elf Hat - More like a Santa hat to me - but it looks great!  Super quick and easy crochet! I bet you could do this in an afternoon! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/twas-the-night-before-christmas-elf-hat
Gnoel Gnome - I had to put a Gnome in.  This one is super colorful and I think it would be great in the West Yorkshire Spinners Morris! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gnoel-gnome
December Bow - what a cute present pattern.  Simple and quick and you know the right person who will wear it!  I’d use Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino for this one!  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/december-bow
Weekend Headband - this is the present for any woman.  I think this is perfect for those who are a little behind in Christmas knitting .  Super fast, easy and functional!  I’d use Woolfolk Flette (for a super soft headband), Meadow Mountain Laramie, or La Bien Aimee Wesley Worsted for this one.  You can get more than one out of a skein! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/weekend-headband

My Favorite YouTube

Summer Lee - This is a great review of Summer’s sock patterns.  She is my favorite sock designer and her patterns are easy to follow.  I’ve learned so much doing her patterns.  They are all very approachable.  All My Favorite Socks by Category
Dean and Bean - thought I’d include this video so you could see what we are doing with the Sock Knitting Machines!Your First CSM Knit 2.0
Brook Willow - Brook has a nice lineup of gift knitting.  Knitting gifts, sewing a bag, and spinning some yarn 🧶
Made by Moomeeno - I enjoyed hearing about her knits - especially her steeking adventure!45 // A Chatty One.. Kiruna Cardigan, Njord Socks, Habitation Throw, Weaving, Yarn Advents & Moomins
Ruby Purls Knitting - Well this one is for the adventurer! For those who are for the more complicated color work sweaters!20 Colourwork Sweaters that aren't Round Yokes
Laura Penrose - I love Amsterdam.  I will be honest - I skipped around on this one to catch Amsterdam - the whining can be annoying!Knitting, eating and exploring in Amsterdam
Andrea Mowry -This is the video I like for the folded color or cuff or hem. I take all her advice, but instead of sewing it down - i just pick up the opposite stitch (if you have a knit you pick up a purl on the wrong side) and then knit them together and pull the last stitch over to bind off.  No need for sewing, no need for three needle bind off.  If you want a demo - let me know! How to sew, or whip stitch, a folded collar into place.
Devious Knitter - This is my favorite Judy’s video.  If you need help, let me know!Improved Judy's Magic Cast On

Wrap up

I feel relieved that I was able to get this out on time!  I’m working on that one!  As we expand and grow, let me know your thoughts.  It’s hard to believe, but there is more coming!  We are ordering our Spin Cycle and Ito next week!  More classes, markets, and retreats are on their way!  Hold on to your boot straps, it's going to be a fun new year!
Keep up to date on www.peacefulmaking.com , Instagram, and Facebook!  New classes, schedules, products, and other information.  Reach out by text or phone or messenger!  Peaceful making all!  Look forward to seeing you all this week!
