Peaceful Making Newsletter 20

A Christmas Poem
It’s almost a week before Christmas and all through the store,
All the makers are making all the presents galore;
The needles, hooks and looms are working so quickly with care,
In hopes that their presents soon will be there;
All the children are nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sweet presents dance in their heads,
As we make those ‘kerchiefs, sweaters, mittens and caps,
We can’t wait to settle down for a long winter’s nap!
When out in the parking lot there arose such a clatter,
I sprung from my loom to see what was the matter,
Was a little old man, so lively and quick,  I knew with relief it was Ol’ Saint Nick.
Faster than a knitting machine, he flew in the door,
As he did - he said with such joy - oh my!
The makers have made so much more!
He sprung to his sleigh, to his team he gave a whistle,
And away they all flew with all the Camellia Fiber’s Thistle!
But I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight,
Grateful for Peaceful Making,
Happy Making Christmas to all and to all a good night!
Peaceful Happening
It’s almost here.  We, and the making community, have been so busy preparing for the gift giving season.  We have come up with some creative ways to help.  Whether it is a cute gift certificate in a cute little bag, a year of classes coupon for your loved one,  or a simple gift of yarn, or a hand spun hat or sock (yes we can help with that), or something you have been diligently working on for a love one - we are here to help - let us know if you need anything!  We are preparing for our holiday season.  We will be closing the brick and mortar store from Christmas Day until 1/5.  Our web store will continue to be open.  If you are local and want to pick it up - please add local pickup to your order and we will arrange a time for you to do this!  Jenna, Haley and I are flying off to Utah for hopefully some skiing!  Our Santa wish is for some snow on the mountain - please wish for us too!
Community
I want to personally thank all of you who donated to all of the wonderful charities we supported this year.  We have had 2 large pickups for The Room at the Inn and we will be taking a check for $200 from the raffle at the Wanchese Christmas Market as well as a large tub of food donations to The Beach Food Pantry.  We also made 5 hats to donate to the Spring Arbor.  We also gave a very large donation to Sisters United where they have so many wonderful programs!  It warms our hearts to help so many people during this holiday season!  A big thanks to our wonderful making community!
New Things in the Store Week
This week has been all about the gifts.  We have yearly class memberships, gift certificates,  spinning hats when you purchase yarn, sock tubes with a purchase of yarn, cute new trinkets and other fun things!
We received a large shipment of cute project support items from Japan.  Cute little boxes both tin and plastic for notions,  beautiful calendars and journals with amazing pen clips.  There is more coming - we expect them this week.
We also received some amazing carousels for the Lemon Tree yarn minders.  These are the bases that fit the yarn minders that allow them to sit on the table and spin. We also received larger center sticks that will hold more than one cake.  These two parts allow you to have a flexible minder set for walking, on the go, or on the table with one or more cakes of yarn.  Super cute.
We also received a large shipment of Lyke yarn minder pendles.   We have several different beautiful wool colors and they will hold several cakes of yarn. These have been very popular and would be a wonderful Christmas gift!
We sold out of all the Hedge Hog Fiber Advent boxes and the Woobles Christmas Tree Ornaments, but we have a few Woobles Advent Boxes left.  They are a super cute workshop themed box.
Ok here are a few more things coming in this week - may be great Christmas projects or gifts!  Yes - we ordered bulky yarn!  Lots of demand for this and of course the new felted slipper patterns!  WE LISTENED!  Two different brands of felting and bulky yarn are coming in this week.  Two slipper patterns below.  Should be a quick afternoon bulky knit!  I’ll send out an email when it comes in!
Christmas Celebrations
We had our White Elephant Christmas Celebration and it was so fun!  We had a wonderful spread again with a fun round of Christmas present exchanges, steals and swaps.  So fun!
We hosted the Fiber Guild Christmas Lunch.  It was a beautiful lunch with lovely food as well.  We will continue to host the Fiber guild meeting this year and will put them on the Peaceful Making Calendar.  If you would like to join the guild then email them to join at obxfiberguild@gmail.com
Weaving and Spinning
Weaving and Spinning classes will be added to the Making Academy Calendar https://peacefulmaking.com/pages/calendar?_pos=3&_sid=5b1cb4eb4&_ss=r
Just a reminder are dealers for Ashford, Shacht and Kromski - so if you are looking for a loom, spinning wheel, e-wheel, or pieces and parts - let us help you!  We can order anything you may be looking for and we have many things in stock.  Gift Certificates are a great choice for family - so they can pick out what they’d like!  We can ship to the store or drop ship to wherever you are!

An exciting new addition to Spinning in the store - we will be carrying Dreaming Robots e-wheels.  These are really nice 3d printed e-wheels that are very affordable.  We are carrying the Nanos and the EEW 6.1.  They have shipped and we expect them on December 15.  The Nano is $139 and the EEW6.1 will be $299.  These are both light weight and very portable - and more importantly a very affordable spinning option!  Another great option for a Christmas Present!

Classes and New Events - Need Jenna’s Updates
We have finally put the schedule for the Making academy (yes we changed the name to make one academy instead of so many!).  The classes and other events are on this calendar
The knitting classes will be twice a week.  Thursday at 6:30 will be a Skill’s Tune Up class.  You will need to already know how to knit for this class.  It will be an hour to learn or sharpen a skill.  Our first class will be Demystifying Ravelry.  See the calendar for the class list for the next 6 or so months.  We will also have a beginners class on Sundays from 1- 3.  We will have a series of classes that will move the student to becoming a knitter. Check out the calendar! Classes can be purchased individually by the hour,  by the month or a yearly membership that includes all events, classes, and equipment used in the store for a year.  Here is the price schedule:
Individual classes by the hour:  $10 per hour.
Monthly classes: $24 per month
Yearly membership: $247 per year

Gnoel Gnome - I had to put a Gnome in.  This one is super colorful and I think it would be great in the West Yorkshire Spinners Morris! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gnoel-gnome
December Bow - what a cute present pattern.  Simple and quick and you know the right person who will wear it!  I’d use Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino for this one!  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/december-bow
Weekend Headband - this is the present for any woman.  I think this is perfect for those who are a little behind in Christmas knitting .  Super fast, easy and functional!  I’d use Woolfolk Flette (for a super soft headband), Meadow Mountain Laramie, or La Bien Aimee Wesley Worsted for this one.  You can get more than one out of a skein! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/weekend-headband
